Sustainability Bond Framework
Intesa Sanpaolo's commitment to the Green Economy is also achieved through the issuance of bonds dedicated to the financing of environmental sustainability projects.
Intesa Sanpaolo has developed a framework for the issuance of Sustainability Bonds aimed at regulating the issuance of bonds with which projects and companies will be financed, both new and existing. The main objective is to support investments with measurable and monitorable environmental or social benefits through specific indicators.
The framework has been drawn up in line with the Green Bond Principles 2019, Social Bond Principles 2019 and Sustainability Bond Guidelines 2018 and will incorporate any changes arising from European regulation on the subject, which are currently being approved (Green Bond Standard).
The inaugural operation will be a Sustainability Bond focused on projects related to the Circular Economy.
Sustainability Bond material:
In June 2019, following the annual drafting commitment, Intesa Sanpaolo published its second Green Bond Report on the use of Green Bond proceeds and the related environmental benefits.
64.0% of the proceeds going to photovoltaics, 12.6% to wind, 12.5% to bioenergy, 9.3% to hydropower and 1.6% to energy efficiency. The environmental benefits of the 75 projects financed amount to more than 353 thousand tonnes of CO2 emissions avoided annually.
The Green Bond connected with environmental sustainability projects was issued in June 2017 for a total amount of 500 million euro . The commitments undertaken by Intesa Sanpaolo are defined in a set of guidelines (Green Bond Framework) inspired by the Green Bond Principles, a voluntary protocol that favours the transparency of the operation and involves the close monitoring of the environmental projects that receive the funds. The compliance of the framework with these principles was verified by an external ESG research and analysis company.
