Intesa Sanpaolo has granted a loan of €10 million to Agricola Moderna, one of the pioneer enterprises in the Italian vertical agriculture market: the resources will enable the technological implementation of the new vertical farming plant under construction in Agnadello (CR).

The new plant, which will be operational from September 2024, will be 100% powered by renewable sources and managed with AI systems, with waste reduced to a minimum along the entire production chain: in addition to saving 95% of water and soil, it will make the process increasingly circular, for example by reintroducing the water evaporated by the plants into the system.

The loan is backed by SACE’s Green Guarantee.

The Intesa Sanpaolo Group is in the front line in supporting enterprises that combine growth with sustainable development and the Agnadello project is a concrete example of innovation in the agri-food sector.

Agricola Moderna was established in Milan in 2018 and began experimentation in 2019 with a pilot plant in Melzo (MI). Distribution of its products throughout the Lombard region began the following year, through mass retailers and specialised e-commerce.
