Digital payments: SoftPOS turns smartphones and tablets into POS terminals

The image accompanying the News on the launch of SoftPOS, an innovative solution that allows merchants to accept payments via an App to download onto their smartphone or tablet, portrays a young woman delivering a package while holding out her smartphone for payment to a man who brings his own closer.

Intesa Sanpaolo is stepping up its digital payments services by providing its customers with SoftPOS, an innovative solution that allows merchants to accept payments via an app to be downloaded to their smartphone or tablet.

Developed by Nexi, SoftPOS is in an app that merchants can associate with their devices in just a few steps, simply and securely, and that also issues receipts, by sending them digitally to customers.

It is a particularly useful solution, for example, for mobile businesses, freelancers, small companies or businesses with home deliveries, with advantages such as:

  • dematerialisation of collections
  • secure acceptance of digital payments
  • reduction of waits and queues, if used as an additional collection point

The launch of SoftPOS goes hand-in-hand with Crescibusiness, a €5-billion plan to support businesses operating in trade, tourism and crafts: Intesa Sanpaolo is providing them with liquidity measures, guaranteed financing and advanced digital payment solutions, with the added bonus of reimbursements for commissions on POS micropayments.

With more than 16 million cards and transaction volumes through around 800,000 direct and indirect POS terminals, Intesa Sanpaolo is Italy's leading payments provider, and its 2022-2025 Business Plan envisages further growth, increasing digital payments by 50% to around 75 million in 2025 from 51 million in 2021.
