Only Italian bank in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and Europe Index

The image accompanying the News on the inclusion of Intesa Sanpaolo for the thirteenth consecutive year in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index, among the most important global and European stock market sustainability indices, portrays the bioclimatic greenhouse of the skyscraper of Intesa Sanpaolo in Turin

Intesa Sanpaolo is the only Italian bank to be included for the 13th consecutive year in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index, among the most important global and European sustainability stock market indices.

The award confirms Intesa Sanpaolo as one of the most active groups in the world in sustainable development, in keeping with one of the pillars of the 2022-2025 Business Plan, which includes a significant ESG commitment, with a world-class position in social impact and a strong focus on climate.

More specifically, Intesa Sanpaolo was awarded an overall score of 78 out of 100, compared to an industry average of 43 (figure from the S&P Global platform as at 8 December 2023 – "Dow Jones eligible universe" perimeter).

The Group's main achievements in the ESG area include:

  • it disbursed €13.5 billion of social lending, new credit to support non-profit activities, vulnerable people, youth and urban regeneration (from 2022 to 30 September 2023) out of a Plan target of €25 billion
  • it carried out €32 million of the €50 million in initiatives in the Plan to Fight Poverty as part of the programme to provide food and shelter for people in need
  • it disbursed €41 billion of the €76 billion in new credit available to support the green economy, circular economy and ecological transition (from 2021 to 30 September 2023) in connection with the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, of which €7.5 billion for the circular economy
  • it reached 100% of electricity purchased from renewable sources in Italy and 91% at Group level

Its most recent initiatives in the social and environmental field also include:

  • a commitment to allocate €1.5 billion by 2027 to fight inequality and poverty
  • the launch of Think Forestry, with a commitment to plant 100 million trees and customer involvement in reforestation and natural capital protection
