Intesa Sanpaolo increases use of renewable energy, reducing own emissions
Intesa Sanpaolo is accelerating the reduction of its own emissions by increasing the use of energy from renewable sources.
Under a new agreement with A2A, electricity will be sourced from two photovoltaic plants, which will meet about 10% of the Group's annual needs in Italy (about 30Gwh) for 10 years.
The two newly constructed photovoltaic plants are located in Sicily and will come into operation during 2024.
For the bank led by Carlo Messina, the initiative represents an effective contribution to the decarbonisation process, diversifying the sources of energy supply and stabilising the purchase price for part of its needs.
Highlights of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group's ESG commitment in 2022/2023:
- 36.8 million of interventions for the food and shelter programme for people in need
- €14.8 billion in new social lending
- €85 million in investments in start-ups through NEVA SGR
- 405 innovation projects launched by the Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Centre
- around €45 billion in new lending to support the green economy, circular economy and ecological transition (since 2021). Of this amount, €8.7 billion in circular economy new lending
- €4.3 billion of new green lending to individuals
- opening of 13 ESG workshops
- 74% of Eurizon's assets under management invested in ESG products.
