Intesa Sanpaolo is the number-one bank in Europe, the number-two in the world and the only Italian bank included in the Refinitiv Global Diversity and Inclusion Index, which identifies the top 100 publicly traded companies with the most diverse and inclusive workplaces.

The key pillars analysed by Refinitiv are:

  • diversity
  • inclusion
  • people development
  • controversy management.

Refinitiv assesses more 12,000 companies globally and Intesa Sanpaolo was ranked 16th, improving on last year's ranking.

Intesa Sanpaolo has long introduced concrete tools to enhance diversity and promote inclusion, which it considers essential components for the Group's growth.

The main such tools are: the creation of a Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Structure, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer; the definition of a specific KPI to reward managers who pay attention to gender equity; programmes to accelerate women's careers; specific training paths to foster inclusion; an advanced integrated welfare system.

In addition,

  • the "Principles on Diversity & Inclusion" policy was approved in 2020, formalising the inclusion policy towards all forms of diversity, basing it on respect for all people, meritocracy and equal opportunities
  • in 2021 the Rules for Combating Sexual Harassment were published. This document complements the Code of Ethics and the Code of Conduct, spelling out the policy of firmly condemning all types of harassment and governing in detail the process for handling reports
  • in 2021 Intesa Sanpaolo became the first Italian bank and among the first in Europe to acquire GEEIS - Diversity certification, aimed at assessing organisations' commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • collaboration continued with Parks - Liberi e Uguali, with which Intesa Sanpaolo is associated and with which communication and awareness-raising initiatives were designed to promote the full inclusion of LGBT+ people.
