Intesa Sanpaolo: a Successful Wealth Management and Protection Company

Intesa Sanpaolo: a Successful Wealth Management and Protection Company. Wealth Management & Protection to be central to new 2022-2025 Business Plan

The Group recently hosted “Intesa Sanpaolo: a Successful Wealth Management & Protection Company”, an event dedicated to the results and initiatives of Eurizon, Fideuram - Intesa Sanpaolo Private Banking and Intesa Sanpaolo Vita, which are among the Group’s main drivers of growth.

During the event, the four presentations analysed:

  • the asset management market in Italy
  • financial advisory services
  • private banking, and
  • the Intesa Sanpaolo Group’s insurance business

in light of demographic, social and economic trends, examining in particular the evolution of private savings as a distinctive element of the Italian economy.

The activities of the Asset Management, Private Banking and Insurance Divisions have been at the heart of Intesa Sanpaolo’s Business Plans since 2014. This Wealth Management & Protection model has contributed strongly to the growth of the Group, which today is one of the top banks in Europe in terms of solidity, efficiency and profitability, showing resilience even in the most complex phases of international markets.

Intesa Sanpaolo’s unique Wealth Management & Protection business model will also be part of the 2022-2025 Business Plan to be presented next February.

Following are highlights from the remarks made during the event “Intesa Sanpaolo: a Successful Wealth Management & Protection Company”.

Over the past two years, we have seen a sharp build-up in savings due to the drop in consumption and the uncertainty caused by the pandemic, concentrated mainly in the higher income brackets. Much of the increase in savings is held in liquid assets, and the change in household current account deposits in the first eight months of 2021 was greater than in the same period in 2020; it is estimated that the propensity to save may return to pre-Covid levels in 2023. The business opportunities for the various components of Wealth Management, therefore, are numerous and must take into account the ongoing processes of digitalisation and the evolution of demand, which is increasingly sensitive to ESG, climate protection and health issues.

Today Fideuram - Intesa Sanpaolo Private Banking is the leading private bank in Italy, where it manages €327 billion in assets for over 986,000 clients. The integration of UBI Top Private and IWBank has further strengthened our leadership in Italy, thanks to the professionalism of our more than 6,600 private bankers, who offer clients balanced and differentiated management of their assets. We are also a leading player on international markets: we are the second-largest operator in the Eurozone in terms of assets under management, and sixth if we also consider our Swiss competitors. Sustainability, management of large portfolios, support for the real economy, digitalisation and internationalisation are the pillars on which the future growth strategies of our Division will be based.

Since 2014, the Insurance Division has registered positive growth rates in the main economic indicators and in premium income volumes, which have enabled us to position ourselves at the top of the life, non-life and health segments in Italy. We provide customers of the Group’s network banks with valuable solutions to transform savings into investments and risk into protection. Thanks to the bancassurance model, we identify the best investment opportunities for customers and together we build the ideal protection solution with modular products that can adapt over time, based on actual insurance needs at various stages in life, both personal and business. Digital transformation and the promotion of an insurance culture in Italy are two of the various ongoing projects that distinguish our capacity for innovation.

We are enjoying significant growth both in Italy – where we have a leadership position – and abroad, where we are achieving good results from our presence in various European countries and in Asia. In a scenario of abundant liquidity and low rates, it is essential to direct available savings towards diversified, professionally-managed investment solutions, which can also channel resources to support the real economy. We at Eurizon are continuously striving to create new solutions that meet the needs of our clients to enhance the long-term growth of their investments, while respecting ESG sustainability criteria.
