Green and sustainable culture and initiatives
Intesa Sanpaolo contributes to spreading the environmental and sustainability culture both internally and among its customers and the community, through training and engagement actions, participation in initiatives, associations and debates at national, European and international level, and the production of studies and research.

Training and engagement
Through the Apprendo online training platform, the Bank has made a series of specific courses on environmental topics available to the Group's people. The series include two mandatory courses for employees directly involved in the application of Environmental and Energy Management Systems (around 6,000 people) and an optional course for the dissemination of good ecological practices.
The Real Estate colleagues of all the Foreign Banks were involved in projects to promote and achieve reductions in their emissions.

A series of news was also published on the company intranet aimed at raising employee awareness about reducing their energy consumption both at work and at home.

The Group actively contributes to the national and international debate on environmental sustainability issues and to the dissemination of culture and growth of sustainability skills, also within the financial sector, through participation in various initiatives and working groups, including:

2023 Initiatives and working groups
provides for the in-depth analysis of energy and environmental management processes in the Bank according to the main international standards, working on topics such as energy diagnoses, self-production of energy from renewable sources, participation in energy communities, carbon offset, reporting with the transition from GRI standards to the new European ESRS standards
At the European level, Intesa Sanpaolo interacted with legislators, the principal trade associations and other stakeholders to promote and represent the Group's various initiatives on environmental sustainability. Through its office in Brussels, it brings its best practices to the attention of the regulator, carries out training activities for European officials on financial issues to support sustainability and represents the specificities of its context to make them considered during the legislative process.
Events and initiatives
Intending to improve environmental sustainability, including through reducing its emissions as set out in its Business Plan, Intesa Sanpaolo has launched the Think Forestry initiative, which provides access to a network of national and international forestry initiatives. The Bank participates directly by supporting the creation of new forests in several Italian cities and organizing actual planting events with an initial investment of 100,000 euros to plant thousands of trees. In 2023, the first planting events took place in Turin and Rome.
To raise awareness among customers and people of the Group on environmental issues, Intesa Sanpaolo participates in various initiatives for increasingly spreading the culture of sustainability and good practices.
Among the main ones: M'Illumino di Meno, the day dedicated to energy saving promoted by Radio 2 (every year Intesa Sanpaolo commits to turning off the lights in its main offices at defined times), the World Environment Day, promoted by UNEP FI, this year dedicated to the fight against plastic pollution, and the European Week for Waste Reduction, promoted by the European Commission.

As part of the initiatives for environmental protection, Intesa Sanpaolo promoted the launch of the RIPARTY-AMO project, created in partnership with WWF and Jova Beach Party 2022, which aims to create a national mobilization for the protection of coastal areas and other critical areas of the Italian environmental heritage.
