Intesa Sanpaolo launches the Think Forestry initiative
As part of its 2022-2025 Business Plan, Intesa Sanpaolo has made a commitment to protect and restore natural capital, preserving and planting up to 100 million trees over the four-year period directly as a Group or with dedicated financing for its clients
Consistent with this commitment, the Think Forestry initiative has been launched, which will enable Intesa Sanpaolo customers to play a leading role in protecting and strengthening forests through a programme that will provide access to a network of first-rate national and international forestry initiatives, while also offering innovative tools to support companies in their efforts to reduce CO2 emissions and manage residual emissions.
Every year about 10 million hectares of forest area are destroyed, an area equal to about 1/3 of Italy, with the obvious consequences in terms of irreparable damage to the biosphere and negative effects on climate change.
Intesa Sanpaolo is aware of its role in protecting natural capital, both through its own interventions and through services offered to corporate clients.
For this reason, as the first step of the Think Forestry initiative, an extensive planting programme was launched, thanks to an agreement with the Climate Network company, with the aim of contributing to the "reforestation" of the Italian territory, a programme in which the Bank will participate directly, setting an example and supporting the planting of trees in some major Italian cities, starting as early as November 2023 in Turin and Rome.
In the next months, Intesa Sanpaolo will implement Think Forestry with further collaborations, to support all stages of the pathway for companies to manage and reduce their emissions, from the measurement of their environmental impact to its mitigation, enabling them to pursue the sustainable transition by raising their standards and engaging in environmental projects also on an international scale.
