First major solo exhibition dedicated to Lisetta Carmi in Turin
Galleria d'Italia – Turin, Intesa Sanpaolo’s museum, are hosting “Lisetta Carmi. Suonare Forte” (“Lisetta Carmi. Playing Loud”), the first major solo exhibition dedicated to one of the most brilliant and original personalities of the Italian photographic panorama, who died recently.
The exhibition, curated by Giovanni Battista Martini, displays more than 150 photos shot in the nineteen sixties and seventies, which are among her most significant works: from the extraordinary reportage “I travestiti” ("The Transvestites"), unique of its kind, to the series on giving birth, the photographs dedicated to the world of work in Italy and the sequence of her meeting with Ezra Pound.
“Lisetta Carmi. Suonare Forte” is the first in a series of events dedicated to the celebration of the masters of Italian photography in the twentieth century through the project “Great Italian Photography”, assigned to Roberto Koch.
An exhibition setting expressly dedicated to photography, the Gallerie d'Italia - Turin, recently inaugurated, house the Publifoto Intesa Sanpaolo Archive, with around 7 million shots taken between the nineteen thirties and nineties by one of the leading agencies of Italian photojournalism.
The exhibition site in Turin, together with those in Milan, Naples and Vicenza, is part of Intesa Sanpaolo's Gallerie d'Italia museum project.
Open to the public from 22 September 2022 to 12 February 2023.
