Intesa Sanpaolo’s solidarity towards the needy
Three million six hundred thousand meals, 72,000 beds, 36,000 pharmaceutical drugs, 36,000 items of clothing distributed to the needy: these figures are clear proof of the support that the Intesa Sanpaolo Group provided in 2018, in keeping with the objectives of the 2018-2021 Business Plan, to charitable entities and organisations in order to meet the basic needs of those in serious difficulty, and to offer them some hope of a better future.
Carlo Messina, CEO and Managing Director of Intesa Sanpaolo, commented “The Bank’s results and soundness underlie our commitment to helping others in greater need, in the form of an agreement between the Bank and civil society to fight poverty. We shall continue to operate in this way through 2019, on the basis of the Business Plan’s objective, which more than anything else gives meaning to our everyday operations”.
Intesa Sanpaolo helps charitable entities and associations distribute meals, clothing, medicines and beds to the needy.
More specifically, through the Food Bank, the Caritas, the City Angels and Vidas, Intesa Sanpaolo has stipulated agreements for the fight against hunger, enhancing the assistance that these organisations provide. This important objective has been achieved also thanks to the contribution of the Presidency’s Charitable Fund, which has traditionally focused on philanthropic activities, through the provision of support to various entities such as Caritas, the Community of Sant’Egidio, Vincenza volunteer groups, the Cottolengo institute, and the Opera di San Francesco.
Fondazione Intesa Sanpaolo Onlus also contributed to achieving these results as per its statutory vocation, which sees it make donations in support of social canteens and dormitories, as well as to employees experiencing difficulties and to grant the right to study.
The Bank’s institutional activity regarding social solidarity was accompanied, on 11 December, by a “company volunteer work day” promoted by the Bank, which consisted in 50 of its employees actively involved as volunteers at the Franciscan social cafeterias run by the Antoniano non-profit organisation throughout Italy.
