Albania: with CDP to support SMEs and the green economy
Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Albania and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti have signed a long-term financing agreement for €10 million, which will make available resources of at least €20 million: the goal is to support the growth of Albanian SMEs operating in sectors with a high ESG impact through financing at favourable rates.
More specifically, the agreement benefits Albanian SMEs interested in seizing opportunities in the following areas:
- green economy
- social entrepreneurship
- sustainable agriculture
- circular economy
- ecotourism
The funds – made available under the Western Balkans Investment Framework initiative – will support at least 50 local businesses, creating new jobs and contributing to the achievement of five UN Sustainable Development Goals ("SDGs").
The initiative also favours Italian companies interested in the business opportunities that Albania and the Western Balkans area can offer, strengthening economic relations between Albania and Italy.
"I am certain that our partnership with CDP in Albania will help create further new opportunities and synergies, as part of the strong strategic relationship between Intesa Sanpaolo and the network of Italian institutions, such as CDP, SACE and SIMEST, that support the internationalisation process of Italian companies and local economic development."
Marco Elio Rottigni, Chief International Subsidiary Banks Division of Intesa Sanpaolo
The agreement comes only a few days after that signed in Serbia, also with CDP, and is part of a multi-stage programme that will also involve other countries where Intesa Sanpaolo is present.
Italy is Albania's main trading partner and foreign investor with 2,500 companies (Italian and mixed Italian companies) directly employing 50,000 people.
Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Albania – a subsidiary of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group in Albania and one of the largest banks in the country – is the only Italian bank operating in the country.
