Donation of an innovative radiotherapy system to Bellaria hospital in Bologna
Through a donation of €4.5 million, Intesa Sanpaolo and Fondazione Carisbo are equipping the Bellaria hospital in Bologna with CyberKnife S7, an innovative stereotactic radiotherapy system for better treatment of cancer patients.
Using a steerable robotic arm, CyberKnife S7 can operate with submillimetre precision: it can thus guarantee maximum treatment accuracy and preserve healthy tissues surrounding tumour cells, while maintaining full treatment efficacy.
The technology expands the range of therapies for particularly challenging tumours located in sites that are difficult to operate on, and – as the only machine with such characteristics in Emilia-Romagna – it will allow around 300 patients to be treated per year.
"This extraordinary initiative is very important for a company like ours, to help achieve projects that have an impact on the health and life of the community in which we operate, and to do so together with the most representative citizen stakeholders. We believe and invest a great deal in collaboration between public and private entities, to realise concrete initiatives like this and drive research, study and development for the benefit of all"
Stefano Lucchini, Chief Institutional Affairs and External Communication Officer Intesa Sanpaolo
The donation is part of the memorandum of understanding signed with the Emilia-Romagna Region to offer excellence of care in the Regional Health System, through investments in state-of-the-art technology.
It is also the result of the Group's historical roots in the community and its constant collaboration with Fondazione Carisbo, as underlined by Alessandra Florio, Intesa Sanpaolo's Emilia-Romagna and Marche Regional Director, at the system’s inauguration.
