"Gregory Crewdson. Eveningside": exhibition by great US photographer opens

Gallerie d’Italia – Turin, Intesa Sanpaolo's new museum, is hosting the exhibition "Gregory Crewdson. Eveningside" dedicated to the work of the world-famous US photographer: the cornerstone of the exhibition is the international première of the new series of photographs of the same title, Eveningside (2021-2022).

Partly commissioned by Intesa Sanpaolo, the Eveningside images were conceived by the artist as the final act of a trilogy spanning ten years of work: the exhibition is a review of this trilogy, curated by Jean-Charles Vergne, which begins with Cathedral of the Pines (2012-2014) and An Eclipse of Moths (2018-2019), alongside the earlier minimalist shot, Fireflies (1996).

In the Eveningside series, Crewdson explores moments of contemplation within the confines of everyday life, in workplaces and adjacent spaces, in stark contrast to the haunted, lonely and remote forests of Cathedral of the Pines and the vast, desolate post-industrial landscapes of An Eclipse of Moths.

The exhibition also features "Making Eveningside", a behind-the-scenes video shown in the large multimedia room, part of the new 10,000-square-metre museum in Turin.

An exhibition space expressly dedicated to photography, Gallerie d'Italia – Turin hosts the Intesa Sanpaolo Publifoto Archive, which contains about 7 million shots taken from the 1930s to the 1990s by one of Italy's leading photojournalism agencies.

The Turin museum, together with those of Milan, Naples and Vicenza, is part of Intesa Sanpaolo's Gallerie d'Italia museum project.
