Intesa Sanpaolo: how it is structured and how it works

The bank's organisational structure:

Intesa Sanpaolo's organisational structure is broken down into six Divisions according to a customer-oriented model, which includes operating units dedicated to the different market segments with their respective requirements.

Banca dei Territori Division

It is addressed at the segments:

  • Retail (retail customers with financial assets up to 100,000 euro and businesses/companies with relatively simple requirements)
  • Personal (private customers with financial assets of between 100,000 and 1 million euro)
  • Businesses (SMEs with a turnover not exceeding 350 million euro, classifiable as medium-small). 

These are followed by dedicated branches and can rely on groups of specialists according to the different industrial sectors. The Division also envisages solutions addressed at foreign companies intending to invest in Italy.

Banca dei Territori serves almost 12 million customers with over 3600 branches spread across the national territory, divided into 8 geographical areas

Corporate and Investment Banking Division

It sets out as a global partner for sustainable development of businesses and financial institutions on a national and international basis The companies are the largest ones (over 350 million in turnover), to which specialist groups are dedicated organised according to the different business categories.
The Division includes capital markets, investment banking and structured finance activities (carried out through Banca IMI). Thanks to its international network that revolves around the four hubs of London, New York, Dubai and Hong Kong, the Division operates in a total of 25 countries to support customers' cross-border business through branches, representative offices and subsidiaries that carry out Corporate Banking activities.
Finally, the Division operates in the Public Finance sector as a global partner for the public administration and in the transactional services sector.
In Italy it has 15,000 customers and 27 dedicated branches.

International Subsidiary Banks Division

oversees the Group's activities on foreign markets in which it operates through subsidiary banks that carry out commercial banking activities in select Central and Eastern European countries and in the Mediterranean area: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Egypt, Moldova, Czech Republic, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine and Hungary. It has guidance, coordination and support duties and manages relations of foreign banks with the Group's central structures and with branches and other foreign offices of the Corporate and Investment Banking Division.
It has more than 7 million customers served by around 1,100 branches.

Private Banking Division

The high-end customer segment (Private and High Net Worth Individuals) is served through Fideuram and its subsidiaries with targeted products and services: Intesa Sanpaolo Private Banking, Sanpaolo Invest, Intesa Sanpaolo Private Bank (Suisse) Morval, Fideuram Investimenti, SIREF Fiduciaria and Fideuram Asset Management Ireland. It has 92,000 customers, 230 branches, assets under administration of over 229 billion euro and a network of approximately 6,000 financial advisors and private bankers.

Asset Management Division

It provides asset management solutions for Group customers, external commercial networks and institutional customers. It operates through Eurizon Capital and its subsidiaries, also present in Luxembourg and Central-Eastern Europe. Total assets under management amount to 397 billion euro.

Insurance Division

It provides insurance and pension products to Group customers. The division includes the companies Intesa Sanpaolo Vita, Fideuram Vita, Intesa Sanpaolo Assicura and Intesa Life Irl, with approximately 157 billion euro of assets under management, 84.7 billion euro of technical reserves and a net worth of 5.9 billion euro.
The Group's organisation is completed by the guidance, coordination and control central structures, all reporting to the top management and broken down into Governance Areas according to their respective responsibilities, covering areas such as: human resources, administration and control, finance, legal, social responsibility and sustainability, technology and innovation, communication and external relations, cost, risk and credit management.
