In the past two years, the IMI CIB Division has been involved in 13 major financial transactions between Italy and Spain, totaling around €27 billion. Recently, Intesa Sanpaolo helped major companies like CriteriaCaixa, Iberdrola, Naturgy, and Santander raise €6.7 billion through corporate bonds.

Currently, Intesa Sanpaolo partners with 135 business groups in Spain, with total investments of about €8 billion. This collaboration focuses on tackling challenges and pursuing sustainable growth together, aiming for a globally sustainable future.
Supporting strategic projects across sectors
The IMI CIB Division supports many important projects. For example, it assisted Abertis in acquiring four highway segments in Puerto Rico, extending the group's concession period.
A significant achievement is the €1 billion construction loan provided in pool with other banks, to Aquila Clean Energy, aimed at advancing renewable energy projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Spain and Portugal.
Accelerating Spain’s energy transition
The IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division of Intesa Sanpaolo is crucial in accelerating Spain’s transition to renewable energy. It supports Bruc Energy in managing a large portfolio of solar and wind projects totaling 8.5 gigawatts, reinforcing the shift to sustainable power.
This effort was recognized with the “Renewables Deal of the Year” award at the prestigious 2023 PFI Awards.
Prominent financial support for leading Corporations
The IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division has also helped refinance Cellnex’s €700 million loan, enabling the company to meet key ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) goals, including having at least 32% women in senior management.
Additionally, as the mandated leader arranger, the Division supported CriteriaCaixa’s financing for its 2030 strategic plan, focused on social and economic welfare investments.
Global partnerships driving impact
On a global scale, Intesa Sanpaolo’s IMI CIB Division acted as joint financial advisor to Endesa during the sale of a 49.99% stake in a 2 GigaWatt photovoltaic portfolio to Masdar, advancing Spain's renewable energy landscape.
Similarly, the Division served as Masdar’s sole financial advisor in a landmark deal with Iberdrola to co-invest in the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm, valued at around €1.6 billion. This 476-megawatt project will generate 1.9 terawatt-hours of clean energy annually, enough to power 475,000 homes and cut CO2 emissions by 800,000 tons each year.
Global infrastructure and telecom expansion
Intesa Sanpaolo supported the expansion of Terminal 1 at JFK Airport in New York, expected to handle over 10 million passengers each year by 2030.
This project was recognized at the PFI Awards 2022, where the IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division of Intesa Sanpaolo won the award for 'Americas P3 Deal of the Year'.
The Bank also facilitated a joint venture between Orange and MasMóvil, establishing a leading operator in fixed and mobile network infrastructure.
Driving innovation in Green Energy
As sole financial advisor to Verdalia, Intesa Sanpaolo played a key role in the acquisition of seven biomethane plants, strengthening Verdalia’s position in the green energy sector and supporting the construction of new plants across Italy.
Verdalia, a Spanish company owned by Goldman Sachs Asset Management, specializes in renewable energy solutions, particularly bioenergy, with the aim of reducing reliance on fossil fuels and mitigating environmental impact.
