World Water Day: Intesa Sanpaolo partners with Value of Water Community

The image that accompanies the news on participation in the Valore Acqua Community of The European House – Ambrosetti on the occasion of World Water Day, portrays a smiling young woman with long brown hair and light eyes who, helping herself with one hand, drinks some fresh water from a public fountain

Intesa Sanpaolo and Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, to mark World Water Day, have become partners to Value of Water Community by The European House – Ambrosetti, a multi-stakeholder community dedicated to outlining scenarios, strategies and policies on water resource management.

Intesa Sanpaolo and Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center also participated in the drafting of the Community’s White Paper as leading financiers and advisors of Italian water companies.

Community analyses show that Italy is the number-one country in the European Union by water withdrawn for civilian use. Infrastructure conditions and the effects of climate change make it urgent to move towards sustainable, circular management of water resources, with investments focusing on two macro-objectives:

  • modernisation of integrated water system infrastructure
  • development of reservoirs, also crucial for hydropower production, which dropped by 37.7% in 2022 due to droughts

Intesa Sanpaolo aims to play an active role in the Italian water system, acting as main financial partner to water operators, in line with its strategic goals, which include developing sustainable finance, and with the circular economy trend, for which the water sector remains one of the main areas of application.

In 2022 Intesa Sanpaolo disbursed €32 billion benefiting green economy, circular economy and energy transition projects.
