Gallerie d'Italia - Milan: rediscovering the talent of Felice Carena
"Felice Carena", dedicated to one of the most important but least known artists of the 20th century, is an exhibition offered by Gallerie d'Italia - Milan to rediscover and increase appreciation to the great painter's artistic journey 145 years after his birth.
The exhibition illustrates Carena's career, which spans the first half of the 20th century, with experiments ranging from Symbolism to Expressionism, in a constant search for dialogue with the Classical and Renaissance tradition. The common denominator of his works is a spasmodic search for the light within objects, which does not touch the surface of bodies but rather emanates from within them, becoming “form” itself.
The exhibition is curated by Luca Massimo Barbero, Virginia Baradel, Luigi Cavallo and Elena Pontiggia and presents more than one hundred works, including some of the artist's masterpieces, now held in public and private collections in the cities where the painter lived and worked (Turin, Rome, Florence and finally Venice), as well as major surprising unpublished works.
The exhibition is organised in six sections, each dedicated to a specific period in the artist's life: Between Turin and Rome; the Roman Period; Between Rome and Florence; Theatre; the Portrait and Still Life; Sacred Paintings and Drawings.
The "Felice Carena" exhibition is part of the special attention that Intesa Sanpaolo devotes to the rediscovery of artists who merit broader appreciation in the context of Italian art history.
The Milan museum – along with those of Turin, Naples and Vicenza – is part of Intesa Sanpaolo's Gallerie d’Italia museum project.
Open to the public from 17 May to 29 September 2024.
