Sustainability policies

Policies are key documents in the path of sustainability that Intesa Sanpaolo has decided to undertake. Starting from the principles expressed in the Code of Ethics, they establish rules to ensure transparency and professionalism in the relationship with stakeholders and identify the responsible functions for the different activities.

Business ethics
Code of Ethics The document, that is adopted by all the banks and the companies of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group in Italy and abroad, is as a self-regulation document for the integration of social and environmental considerations into company processes, practices and decisions beyond those required by Legislative Decree 231/2001. It contains voluntary commitments in the management of relations with all the Group’s internal and external stakeholders, setting out the core values and principles of the Group. 
Group's Internal Code of Conduct 
The document defines rules of conduct that recipients are obliged to observe both within workplaces and outside of them, pursuing the interests of the Company and the Group, the customers, and the shareholders with professionalism, diligence, honesty and fairness and, in any event, acting with transparency and in full respect of people’s dignity and integrity.
Organisational, management and control model 
The document contains the organization, management and control model of the Group drawn up pursuant to Legislative Decree no. 231 also inspired by the Guidelines drawn up by the Italian Banking Association (ABI) and approved by the Ministry of Justice. ENGLISH VERSION SOON AVAILABLE
Anti-corruption Guidelines 
The guidelines are aimed at combating corruption in all its forms, where corruption refers to the offering or acceptance, directly or indirectly, of money or other benefits capable of influencing the receiver, in order to induce or reward the execution of a function/activity or the omission thereof. 
The rules are to be respected by the corporate officers and all the personnel of the Group. Furthermore, external stakeholders (suppliers, agents, consultants, professionals, business partners, self-employed or quasi employees, etc.) wthat assist the Group in the execution of its activities are also required to comply.
Health and safety policy The basic principles of the policy reflect the requirements of the Consolidated Law on health and safety in the workplace (Legislative Decree 81/2008) and the relevant mandatory legislation. From the Policy derive rules and processes applied at Group level that define Intesa Sanpaolo's approach to protect the health and safety of all internal and external stakeholders impacted by the Group's activities. The Policy is approved by the Employer for health and safety pursuant to Legislative Decree 81/2008.

Credit and sensitive sectors
Guidelines for the governance of environmental social and governance risks regarding lending operations Specific Guidelines for the governance of ESG risks regarding lending operations define the general criteria aimed at excluding the financing of companies with particularly relevant environmental, social and governance risks. 
Rules for lending operations in the unconventional oil & gas  sector
The document introduces specific exclusions and limitations to operations linked to the main unconventional resources and fragile ecosystems, in implementation of the "Guidelines for the governance of environmental, social and governance risks regarding lending operations" and in line with the indications contained therein.
Rules for lending operations in the coal sector The document sets out, for the Group, limitations and exclusion criteria with reference to lending operations in the coal sector in implementation of the "Guidelines for the governance of environmental, social and governance risks regarding lending operations" and in line with the indications contained therein.
Rules governing transactions with subjects active in the armaments sector
The rules define the provisions that the Intesa Sanpaolo Group intends to adopt in its banking and/or lending activities with subjects operating in the armaments sector and identify some particularly controversial areas from which the Intesa Sanpaolo Group intends to abstain.
Policy concerning the financing of political parties The policy applies to all the foreign subsidiaries in the Group and aligns, with the existing Parent Company regulations, the management with and the granting of loans to political parties and entities (physical and juridical) connected thereto. It reiterates the ban on disbursements through charity and sponsorship, as established by the Group's Model for the management of administrative liability pursuant to italian Legislative Decree 231/01. 
 
Human Rights
   
Principles on Human Rights
The principles define the Group's commitment to human rights in the relationship with all internal and external subjects and explain the main areas of responsibility towards each stakeholder.
Rules on diversity for sexual orientation and identity
The rules define the Intesa Sanpaolo commitment concerning diversity for sexual orientation and identity, extending to unions between persons of the same gender the benefits provided by the company regulations or equivalent ones.
Rules for combatting sexual harassment
The rules state the Group’s strong commitment to preventing and combatting any form of sexual harassment to ensure full respect for each person and the maximum protection of each person’s dignity.
 
Environment
Rules for the environmental and energy policy The rules outline the approach of Intesa Sanpaolo in preventing, managing and, where possible, reducing the environmental impacts (including those related to energy consumption) generated.
Rules on Green Banking Procurement The present paper rules minimum criteria of sustainability in the purchases of paper, stationery, toner, electricity, office machines as well as in the restructuring of the Group's real estate assets.
Rules governing the organization of communication events and training courses The document sets out the criteria and rules for improving the environmental sustainability of internal and external communications events, training courses and other associated events.
