Redesigning the future to achieve sustainable and inclusive impact
B20 Italy: proposals for restarting economy
Caring for the future of the Country is one of our main goals, which is why we guided the B20 Italy Taskforce “Finance & Infrastructure” to address the issues related to business, finance and economic growth. The Business 20 (B20) is the Official G20 Dialogue Forum with the Global Business Community. Nine Taskforces were identified within the B20 Italy, each one for specific thematic areas. Their purpose was to develop concrete and actionable recommendations and policy actions to address global challenges. The recommendations were presented at the Final G20 Italy Summit in Rome in October thus fostering the dialogue between governments and the business community.
Intesa Sanpaolo confirms its commitment to accelerate the restart of the economy and to support our Country’s businesses by implementing the B20 Italy final recommendations which can be summarized by the motto “Reshape the future: Include, Share, Act”.
Finance and infrastructure for sustainable growth
Carlo Messina, our Group CEO, was the Chair of the “Finance & Infrastructure” B20 Italy Taskforce, guiding its activities and fostering the development of the contents proposed by the Taskforce members from the G20 countries’ business community. The purpose of this effort was to identify concrete actions to promote sustainable finance and financial inclusion by supporting the development of ESG and impact investing; enhance infrastructure financing by incentivizing investments in sustainable infrastructure projects and by fostering projects of urban regeneration; foster SMEs and corporates access to capital and credit; accelerate digitalization and innovation processes in the financial sector; increase the efficiency of global and regional Value Chains; support global financial regulatory coherence and systemic risk coordination.

Carlo Messina's point of view
Adriano Olivetti, a famed Italian entrepreneur, wrote “within me there is only the future”, and with this spirit, and in line with the overall commitment of the B20, the Finance & Infrastructure Taskforce has aimed at conveying actionable and impactful recommendations to contribute to shape a brighter future together.

Actionable proposals
Our main priority should be how to promote urbanization according to the principle of “doing well by doing good”: doing good for Italy, for Europe and for international growth, while taking care of vulnerable people.
We can make a difference for the next generation only if we can make the most of today’s unique opportunities for reinvesting a part of our profits to make our communities stronger, to promote solidarity and to ensure that services for people care are available.
Three actionable proposals we support in terms of concrete actions:
- CREATE URBAN REGENERATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE FUNDS managed with an impact approach, focused on social infrastructure and with a vision of taking care of people by creating an environment more favourable to the development of their untapped potential.
- CREATE INTERNATIONAL IMPACT FINANCING PROGRAMS similar to Intesa Sanpaolo’s experience with the “Rinascimento Project” which, during the pandemic, demonstrated in Italian communities the strength and success of public-private partnerships, with a fundamental contribution from NGOs, to accelerate urban regeneration of territories as part of broader infrastructural planning.
- CREATE IMPACT FUNDS FOR INTERNATIONAL SUPPLY CHAINS to develop innovation ecosystems with digital and sustainable infrastructure servicing districts, corporates and SMEs.
These can be very effective accelerators for Italian growth.
