INTESA SANPAOLO HOLDS A 5.3% STAKE IN THE LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE

Torino, Milano, 1st October 2007 – Intesa Sanpaolo communicates that the Group, having accepted the Offer for 100% of the capital of Borsa Italiana S.p.A. launched by the London Stock Exchange (“LSE”) at 4.90 LSE ordinary shares for each Borsa Italiana ordinary share, today exchanged its entire stake in Borsa Italiana made up of 3,040,860 shares (approximately 18.7% of the capital) for 14,900,214 LSE shares (approximately 5.3% of the capital), with a capital gain of approximately 170 million euro in the consolidated income statement.
