Circular economy: €14.5m for Koster for innovative biomethane plant

Intesa Sanpaolo is providing financing of €14.5 million for the innovative plant that Koster is building near Novara, Italy to produce biomethane from organic waste, such as urban and food processing waste.

The new plant will be an energy-efficient facility with the capacity to process around 60,000 tonnes of urban wet waste, organic sludge, grass cuttings and food processing waste, which it will convert into biogas and then biomethane to be fed into the national natural gas grid.

The new plant will also be able to transform the processing waste into compost to be used as organic fertiliser, in a fully circular regeneration of natural capital.

The loan is being disbursed as part of the €8 billion in financing that Intesa Sanpaolo has set aside for the transition of businesses towards the new circular economic model and is backed by a SACE Green Guarantee.
