June 4, 2025
Carlo Messina, CEO of Intesa Sanpaolo, has been named “European Banker of the Year 2024” by the international association of financial and business journalists “The Group of 20+1”.
Key reasons behind the recognition include:
- The excellent and consistent results achieved under Messina’s leadership, which has been a hallmark of Intesa Sanpaolo since May 2013, positioning the Bank among the most profitable and solid institutions in Europe.
- The record dividend of over €6 billion to be distributed to shareholders this year: under Messina’s leadership, the Bank’s market value has more than tripled, and with a capitalization now well above €80 billion, Intesa Sanpaolo ranks among Europe’s leading banks.
- The highest net income in the Bank’s history, achieved in 2024, laying the groundwork for a possible extension of Messina’s term beyond 2025.
- Intesa Sanpaolo’s commitment to supporting the ecological transition, with over €70 billion disbursed since 2021 to foster a more sustainable economy.
- The Bank’s role in social responsibility: under Messina’s leadership, Intesa Sanpaolo has launched major initiatives to promote social cohesion in Italy, with a commitment of €2.5 billion.
