3 November 2026
Record results, upgraded 2026 earnings guidance and a transaction set to accelerate the Group’s growth. Commenting on the first nine months of the year, CEO Carlo Messina highlights the strength of Intesa Sanpaolo’s business model and the industrial rationale behind the Offer for Monte dei Paschi di Siena.
Record results and upgraded 2026 guidance
- “In the first nine months of 2026, we achieved our highest-ever net income of €8.2 billion. The third quarter was also our best-ever Q3, with net income of more than €2.6 billion. These results confirm the strength of our business model and our ability to fully execute the 2026-2029 Business Plan.”
- “We recorded our highest-ever revenues, with growth across all components thanks to our well-diversified business model. Customer financial assets exceeded €1.5 trillion, confirming the Group’s continued commercial momentum.”
- “Thanks to our nine-month performance, we can upgrade our 2026 net income guidance to well above €10 billion, despite the almost €1 billion tax impact from Italy’s 2026 Budget Law.”
The Offer for Monte dei Paschi di Siena
- “Our Offer gives Monte dei Paschi di Siena shareholders the opportunity to join Italy’s leading banking group and one of Europe’s biggest financial institutions. We firmly believe in the strength of our industrial project and the value it will create for shareholders, employees, customers and local communities.”
- “Our project has a clear industrial rationale: to strengthen the Group’s ability to manage and grow household savings, support Italian businesses as they expand at home and internationally, and compete more effectively in Europe, while maintaining deep roots in local communities. Our growth trajectory remains strong, and the transaction will enable us to achieve our Business Plan targets three years ahead of schedule. In Siena and Tuscany, we also plan to increase lending and establish a technology hub, a commercial division and central functions. The transaction will benefit all stakeholders, further strengthening the Group’s ability to create and distribute value on a broader and more sustainable basis.”
- “The new Group is expected to deliver net income of more than €16 billion in 2029, with total shareholder distributions estimated at approximately €61 billion over the 2025-2029 period, €11 billion more than envisaged in our Business Plan announced in February.”

“In the first nine months of 2026, we provided €66.4 billion in new lending to households and businesses, including approximately €15.1 billion in medium- and long-term lending for the sustainable transition and €4.4 billion in new social lending. Loans to customers increased by 4% year-on-year.
“Our rigorous discipline in executing the Business Plan and controlling costs continues to support the efficiency of our business model. The nine-month cost/income ratio stood at 36.7%, the lowest ever for the first nine months and among the best in Europe, thanks to a further reduction in operating costs.
“Our position as a “Zero-NPL Bank” continues to strengthen. The net NPL ratio stands at a historical low of 0.8%. Inflows of new NPLs also remain at historical lows, while NPL coverage has increased significantly. Intesa Sanpaolo’s contribution to Italy
“Intesa Sanpaolo’s financial strength translates into a tangible contribution to the country. In the first nine months of 2026, the Group contributed €5.2 billion in taxes and recorded a €900 million impact from Italy’s 2026 Budget Law, under the three-year agreement signed last year, while supporting employment and lending to households and businesses. Italy’s financial sector also plays a significant role in financing public debt. Italian banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions collectively hold almost €780 billion in Italian government bonds.
“We are also a leader in social impact. In the first nine months of 2026, we allocated more than €210 million to initiatives and projects supporting communities, fighting poverty and reducing inequalities. We also continue to support the sustainable transition, helping households and businesses make the investments needed as the economy evolves.
“The quality of our people is the foundation of the results we continue to achieve and our ability to create sustainable value over time. I extend my sincerest thanks to all of them for their professionalism, dedication and the outstanding contribution they make every day to Intesa Sanpaolo’s success.”
