27 March 2026
Intesa Sanpaolo has received two recognitions at the 2026 ABI Awards for Innovation in Banking Services:
- Innovation Award for operations and internal processes with the “SofIA” project
- Special Mention for the “Cash Pooling Excellence for ESG” project
Through these awards, ABI recognizes the most innovative and technologically advanced solutions, capable of meeting customer needs and responding to market evolution, making digitalization and innovation concrete, secure and accessible tools for all.
The SofIA project
SofIA (Self-Organized Financial Intelligent Agent) is an application based on advanced predictive models to assess market risks more accurately, leveraging AI, machine learning and cloud computing. It enables Intesa Sanpaolo to carry out risk analysis on investment portfolios much faster and more effectively. SofIA has reduced daily calculation times by 80% and functional analysis times by 70%.
The application was developed through collaboration between the Chief Risk Officer Area, the Chief Data, A.I. and Technology Officer Area, and the Chief Governance Operating & Transformation Office, as part of the Digital VaR (Value at Risk) programme, launched in 2023 to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and accuracy of the investment portfolio risk identification and monitoring process.
The “Cash Pooling Excellence for ESG” project
Intesa Sanpaolo has structured an innovative International Sustainability-Linked Cash Pooling solution for Boggi Milano, a financial system that combines liquidity management with a commitment to sustainability.
The bank has transformed a technical tool typically used in treasury management into an enabler of corporate ESG objectives, expanding the involvement of various internal functions and promoting a more integrated approach to sustainability.
The project was developed by the Global Transaction Banking Department of the IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division in collaboration with Boggi Milano.
At the 16th edition of the ABI Award for Innovation in Banking Services, part of the National Innovation Award (“Premio dei Premi”), 21 banks participated with 71 projects.
Winners were selected by a Technical-Scientific Committee of experts and a Jury composed of representatives from academia, institutions and consumer associations.
