Intesa Sanpaolo backs Caritas Italiana on justice and youth reintegration
20 January 2026
Caritas Rome’s Cittadella della Carità hosted the event “Helping Those Who Help – 2025–2026 edition”, focusing on the results of the cooperation between Caritas Italiana and Intesa Sanpaolo and on new initiatives supporting people involved in the justice system, with a specific focus on young offenders.
Results from the “Justice with Mercy” programme
The event outlined the outcomes of the “Justice with Mercy” programme, implemented through 54 projects promoted by diocesan Caritas organisations across 16 Italian regions. The initiative reached a total of 14,188 beneficiaries, providing support to incarcerated individuals and their families and promoting social reintegration within local communities.
Activities included direct listening within prisons, community accommodation for people under alternative measures, support for temporary leave permits and initiatives dedicated to prisoners’ children. Training pathways and job opportunities were also developed to foster autonomy and dignity.
Launch of Jobel for the youth justice system
The second part of the event marked the launch of “Jobel”, a new national project promoted by Caritas Italiana with the support of Intesa Sanpaolo, specifically designed for the youth justice system. Running in 2025–2026, Jobel will involve 16 territories hosting juvenile detention facilities, with the aim of supporting the social, educational and professional reintegration of minors and young people under criminal measures.
The project brings together Caritas Italiana, local diocesan Caritas organisations and chaplains of juvenile detention centres, offering structured programmes in vocational training, education support, career guidance and social inclusion, while engaging schools, parishes and local communities.
Intesa Sanpaolo’s role and the partnership with Caritas
The cooperation between Caritas Italiana and Intesa Sanpaolo continues to represent a solid model of joint territorial action, combining financial resources, expertise and social networks.
“The partnership between Intesa Sanpaolo and Caritas Italiana shows how cooperation between the private sector, the third sector and institutions is essential to provide concrete opportunities for social reintegration and to strengthen communities”
Paolo Bonassi, Chief Social Impact Officer of Intesa Sanpaolo
This partnership has delivered tangible results for local communities and enabled the development of innovative inclusion pathways within the justice system.
