With the exhibition "EX - Illustri x Elena Xausa", Gallerie d'Italia - Vicenza is paying tribute to the internationally renowned Italian illustrator and artist Elena Xausa, who recently passed away, by creating an annual event dedicated to international contemporary illustration.

The exhibition is the heart of a creative workshop that will involve illustration enthusiasts for five months: a dynamic project that, inspired by Xausa's energy, aims to engage a broad creative community.

The exhibition features 200 works by the illustrator and creations dedicated to her by 100 artists, divided into:

  • "EXperimenti", the most intimate part of Elena Xausa's creative journey, entirely dedicated to the behind-the-scenes of her works and her personal research
  • "EXpo", a section dedicated to artistic production from 2009 to 2019, when Elena Xausa left Italy, first for Europe and then New York, with the most important collaborations and publications of these ten years of her career, from the best-known international newspapers to the trendiest companies on the European and international scene
  • "EXnovo", a space hosting the works of 100 illustrators, designers and artists called upon to shed light on the artist's creativity through their own original homages
  • "Xcursus", a space where visitors can transfer the inspiration received at the exhibition onto paper.

Elena Xausa lived in Venice, Berlin, Milan and New York, working for world-class magazines and brands such as The New Yorker, The New York Times, Le Monde, Les Echos, Monocle, Vogue, Esquire, Vanity Fair, Icon Design, Apple, Nike, Fendi and many others. Her artistic research led her to explore the infinite possibilities of drawing and also to develop her work in the third dimension, by creating site-specific installations, design objects and apparel.

The initiative is promoted and curated by Intesa Sanpaolo and Associazione Illustri, curator of the biennial international event "Illustri Festival". From 15 April to 10 September 2023.

The Vicenza museum, together with those of Milan, Turin and Naples, is part of Intesa Sanpaolo's Gallerie d'Italia museum project.
