INTESA SANPAOLO AND “ENEL.SI” TOGETHER FOR THE PROMOTION OF PHOTOVOLTAIC: GO-AHEAD FOR INNOVATIVE FINANCIAL SOLUTIONS FOR THE REALISATION OF RENEWABLE SOURCE SYSTEMS

Rome, 9 July 2009 – Intesa Sanpaolo and “Enel.si” – Enel’s Green Power Company and leader in the installation of renewable source systems – have signed an agreement that allows families and businesses to obtain loans on easy terms for the purchase and installation of photovoltaic systems. The objective of the agreement is to promote, through financial instruments for the purpose, the realisation of systems for the production of solar electric power; participants will be able to benefit from 20-year economic incentives made available by GSE (Electric Service Manager) through “Energy Account,” the government scheme for encouraging utilisation of renewable sources and thus contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions, with individual citizens and public and private companies being eligible.

Through its 450 affiliated installers – qualified professionals and entrepreneurs who are part of a franchising network – “Enel.si” is able to arrange for the realisation of “ready-togo” photovoltaic systems and to take care of all technical and administrative requirements, particularly regarding the submission of applications for the favourable rates provided by “Energy Account” plus hook-up of the systems to the power grid.

Intesa Sanpaolo, traditionally sensitive to themes of environmental sustainability and active in supporting  initiatives in the ambit of renewable energy, has made available its experience gained in arranging personalised financial solutions designed to meet the specific needs of the clientele, providing ad hoc loans for investments in this sector (both with traditional formulas and leasing), all compatible with the government incentives.

“Intesa Sanpaolo has always supported the development of renewable energy through the wide range of services and loans made available,” declared Giuseppe Castagna, Director of Corporate Relationship Management of Intesa Sanpaolo. “This is the reason why our Bank was the first in Europe to receive the quality trademark ‘Sustenergy – Sustainable Energy for Europe’ established by the European Commission. Our commitment has been strengthened by the agreement signed with Italy’s Ministry of the Environment, aimed at intensifying co-operation in the matter of energy saving and promotion of renewable energy. Continuing along this path, it was the desire of Intesa Sanpaolo to sign the agreement with “Enel.si” to further facilitate businesses and families that intend to invest and to take advantage of the opportunities that the clean energy sector and emission control offer.”

“The demand for photovoltaic systems in our country has grown enormously, including thanks to the system of government incentives that reward the environmental sensitivity ever increasingly more widespread among the Italian citizenry. As Enel.si, we participate in this development by making available to customers our know-how acquired in years of activity in the sector of renewable sources and energy saving,” underlines Ingmar Wilhelm, Head of Enel.si and Area Development Italy of Enel Green Power. “With this agreement, which we are pleased to have reached with a leading banking institution such as Intesa Sanpaolo, we help our customers, both families and businesses, to realise a photovoltaic system of their own, overcoming technical, bureaucratic and financial difficulties. Making our offer even more enticing is a set of additional services that range from an on-the-spot inspection for installation of the system to preparation of the estimate, both free of charge, as well as assistance in completing the application to GSE to become eligible for Energy Account incentives and a free check-up one year from the time of installation.”
