INTESA SANPAOLO’S ISYBANK TO ACT AS PAYMENT SERVICE PROVIDER FOR THE RETAIL DIGITAL EURO PILOT PROJECT
Milan, 14 July 2026 – Intesa Sanpaolo confirms that isybank, the Group’s digital bank, will participate as a Payment Service Provider (PSP) in the Retail Digital Euro pilot project promoted by the Eurosystem, involving a selected group of payment service providers across the euro area.
The digital bank, established within the Banca dei Territori Division led by Stefano Barrese, will therefore serve as one of the points of reference for users – Eurosystem employees – participating in the trial phase, further confirming its role as Intesa Sanpaolo Group’s innovation hub supporting the development of European payment systems.
The initiative forms part of the broader commitment of the Group, led by Carlo Messina, to make its expertise and know-how available to the project, drawing on the support of BANCOMAT for technological aspects and Mooney for the analysis of potential innovative Digital Euro functionalities.
Antonio Valitutti, Chief Executive Officer of isybank, said: “The ECB’s confirmation of isybank’s participation in the Digital Euro pilot project forms part of Intesa Sanpaolo Group’s broader innovation and digitalisation journey. We will contribute our expertise, technology and experience to help develop innovative solutions supporting the evolution of European payments.”
