Impact assessment of per Merito and mamma@work products 2024
16 July 2025
Intesa Sanpaolo has published the report on the 2024 results of the social impact assessment of the "per Merito" loans, dedicated to supporting university students, and "mamma@work", designed for new working mothers.
Both financing products are supported by the Fund for Impact, an Intesa Sanpaolo tool to promote credit inclusion initiatives with a high social impact, with an availability of €300 million, which allows leveraged credit to be disbursed up to €1.5 billion.
The assessment of the social impact of "per Merito" and "mamma@work" is carried out through a process developed by the Impact Department of the Banca dei Territori Division of Intesa Sanpaolo called "RIM – Impact Survey" which uses specific questionnaires to detect the effects generated by the Bank's credit on beneficiaries and on society.
per Merito
Since its launch in 2019 through 2024, the "per Merito" initiative has supported over 21,000 students with funding totaling €384 million.
"per Merito" has provided students with greater financial independence, allowing them to undertake their studies with greater peace of mind, and has helped relieve their families of the financial burden of support.
It is estimated that for nearly a third of beneficiaries (31.6%, or 6,756 students), the funding can be a crucial tool for continuing their studies or choosing their desired path without further constraints.
The economic value equivalent to a portion of the positive social impact generated by "per Merito" has been estimated at approximately €315 million over a 20-year time horizon.
mamma@work
Between July 2020 and the end of 2024, over 400 new working mothers received financing totaling €8.7 million. An estimated 156 of them were able to avoid losing their jobs or switching to part-time work. Most beneficiaries stated that this credit instrument made it easier for them to decide to have a child.
The economic value equivalent to a portion of the positive social impact generated by "mamma@work" has been estimated at approximately €19 million over a 25-year time horizon.
