Sustainable water management: agreement with Acea and €20 billion for investment
Intesa Sanpaolo and ACEA have signed the first national agreement for the safeguarding and sustainable management of water in companies' production processes - also in relation to NRRP measures - with the aim of:
- supporting the evolution of the country's water infrastructure and promote more careful management throughout the supply chain
- incentivising initiatives to make efficient use of water resources in company production processes
- promoting the reuse of purified water through water communities
- supporting operators in the water supply chain through innovative solutions
- establishing a joint research and study centre, which will publish periodic industry reports and promote local knowledge sharing
generating positive impacts for the environment, the territories and the companies themselves, which will be able to stabilise their water supply.
Intesa Sanpaolo is therefore making €20 billion available to support the investments of companies and operators in the water supply chain, as part of the €410 billion earmarked to support the NRRP initiatives.
"The collaboration with ACEA, in addition to our 20 billion credit availability for investments, stimulates a new culture of responsibility - industrial, economic and personal for each of us - for a sustainable use but above all for the reuse of water resources, overcoming the logic of emergency management towards a perspective of waste reduction and circularity”
Stefano Barrese, Head of Intesa Sanpaolo's Banca dei Territori Division
“Our Division is able to guarantee a high degree of specialisation and customisation to companies and utilities in the sector that wish to promote green, circular and digital investments for an efficient and sustainable management of the entire supply chain, thus also attracting international funds”
Mauro Micillo, Chief of Intesa Sanpaolo's IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division
More specifically, the agreement provides that Intesa Sanpaolo and ACEA will each work with their own expertise and resources to offer:
- dedicated services and products to support investments, such as the financial solution S-Loan for Green Projects to enhance the transformation of the water resource management model
- advisory services to companies interested in infrastructure interventions
- support for sustainable management projects for the entire water supply chain, through the Supply Chain Development Programme
- support for companies' access to European and national calls, particularly those related to the NRRP, through the free “Incent Now” platform.
Cooperation is also envisaged in the areas of research and training - with the publication of an Observatory on the water sector -, the development of professional figures with skills in the “water economy” and the promotion of water communities, for increasingly efficient water reuse in agricultural and industrial districts.
The first issue of the Water Sector Observatory, entitled 'The opportunity of reusing purified waste water”, was presented on the occasion of the signing of the agreement: it discusses reuse of purified waste water, a practice that could contribute significantly to reducing water stress.
Subsequent issues will be devoted to the other major infrastructural, regulatory and cultural issues delaying the achievement of the level of Water Security that the country needs.
