Financing Eni’s Liverpool Bay T&S Project, backbone of the HyNet Cluster
30 June 2025
Intesa Sanpaolo’s IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division has participated, together with a consortium of international banks, in the financing of Eni’s Liverpool Bay CO2 Transportation and Storage (T&S) Project.
The Liverpool Bay T&S project will operate as the backbone of the HyNet Cluster to transport carbon dioxide from capture plants across the North-West of England and North Wales through new and repurposed infrastructure to permanent storage in Eni’s depleted natural gas reservoirs, located under the seabed in Liverpool Bay.
HyNet is one of the world’s most advanced CCS Clusters that will significantly contribute to the reduction of emissions from a wide range of industries across that area.
Construction of the project is expected to commence this year, ready for planned start-up in 2028, in line with industrial emitters in the HyNet Cluster.
In this transaction, IMI CIB Division acted as a Mandated Lead Arranger, confirming Intesa Sanpaolo Group’s commitment to supporting key projects aimed at enabling the energy transition and fostering long-term sustainability.
