Euromoney names Intesa Sanpaolo “Best Bank for Consumers” in Italy
18 July 2025
Intesa Sanpaolo has been named Italy’s Best Bank for Consumers 2025 by leading international finance publication Euromoney, confirming the Bank’s leadership in retail banking
The award highlights the role of Intesa Sanpaolo’s Banca dei Territori Division, led by Stefano Barrese, which contributed 46% of the Group’s Net Operating Income in the first quarter of 2025.
Intesa Sanpaolo serves around 14 million customers in Italy through a network of approximately 3,000 branches across the country, supported by its Digital Branches.
Banca dei Territori Division is Italy’s largest commercial banking network, offering an omnichannel service model to meet diverse customer needs. It aims to be a key partner for the real and social economy in the communities it serves.
Key strengths that led to the award include:
- Banca dei Territori is the main distribution channel for the Group’s in-house product factories - notably in insurance and asset management - “which have helped drive its profitability and given it a better balance between fees and interest income than its peers”, according to Euromoney
- Being the market leader in mortgage lending to individuals in Italy, offering sustainable and accessible solutions to customers, “a key anchor product for the relationship due to its long-term nature”, encouraging customers “to keep multiple products with the bank, such as cards, insurance and investments” – according to Euromoney.
Euromoney is a London-based leading publication covering global financial markets. Its Awards for Excellence have been a benchmark in the international banking sector for over 30 years.
Intesa Sanpaolo’s strong performance was driven by the quality of its relationship managers, technological innovation, omnichannel service model, and comprehensive product offering, contributing to a positive inflow of new customers - even in a mature market like Italy, where Intesa Sanpaolo is already a leader. The launch of the digital bank isybank also attracted new clients, especially among younger generations.
