INTESA SANPAOLO PICKS UP THE PACE WITH MOBILE PAYMENTS
IN COLLABORATION WITH SAMSUNG PAY FOR THE WORLD OF ANDROID
• Intesa Sanpaolo will offer to its customers the Samsung Pay payment system, currently available in 18 countries, and in Italy from early 2018
• The system will support PayGo, Intesa Sanpaolo’s wallet for Android mobile devices, where all the Bank’s MasterCard and Visa payment cards can be stored
• The goal is to promote mobile payments among a large section of the public
Turin, 9 November 2017. The Intesa Sanpaolo Group picks up the pace with mobile payments and teams up with Samsung to offer Samsung Pay to the expansive world of Samsung Android devices, a simple and secure mobile payment service.
The Bank led the way in Italy with PayGo, the integrated proprietary wallet on the Intesa Sanpaolo Mobile app, which allows Intesa Sanpaolo customers to pay with their phone by simply placing it near the POS system, with no need to enter more codes (just unlock the smartphone), and with the ability to charge a contactless card of their choice.
Intesa Sanpaolo’s collaboration with Samsung allows for much greater access to free mobile payment services. Samsung Pay, which will be available from early 2018 in Italy, is already used across the world in 18 countries. User-friendly and secure thanks to biometric authentication, namely iris, fingerprint and facial recognition, Samsung Pay is compatible with all POS systems, including older generation systems which do not have the NFC (contactless payment) system.
To guarantee the greatest level of protection, the collaboration will also include Samsung Pass, which allows users to safely access websites and apps with biometric authentication.
Massimo Tessitore, head of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group’s Multichannel Integration Department explains: “In the mobile payments sector, we are moving in two directions, one towards technological innovation and the other towards large-scale roll-out. The agreement with Samsung Pay meets the need to familiarise an increasingly large section of the public with mobile payments. Approximately 70% of Italians own an Android device, and Samsung is by far the most popular brand in Italy”.
