INTESA SANPAOLO AND ASILO MARIUCCIA FOUNDATION: NEW SHELTERS OPERATIVE FOR WOMEN VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE

  • Successful fund-raising on www.forfunding.it for the 'Casa Ersilia' project
  • The IMI CIB Division of Intesa Sanpaolo has directly supported the project with its own donation

Milan, 19 May 2025 - The fund-raising campaign promoted last September by Intesa Sanpaolo and the Asilo Mariuccia Foundation through For Funding, the Bank's crowdfunding platform, and earmarked for the "Casa Ersilia" project for the construction of two secret shelters in the Lombardy region for women victims of abuse and violence, has been successfully concluded.

The project has raised over €130,000, which financed the renovation of two flats owned by the Foundation. The interventions, carried out in a short space of time and in compliance with safety regulations and the privacy needs of the women guests and their children, have been completed and the shelters are already up and running. The funds raised have made it possible to finance a year's activity of the specialised reception team (psychotherapist, cultural mediators, psychological support), to purchase a vehicle and cover the cost of the driver to safely transport the women and their children. The Foundation also takes care of the costs for food, clothes and some toys to make the isolation period the least traumatic possible.

Shelter homes are facilities with secret addresses that offer free-of-charge accommodation for single women, or women with their children, who have approached an anti-violence centre because they are suffering gender-based violence.

"In just a few months, 'Casa Ersilia' has already welcomed around 10 single women with children, some of whom have embarked on a path out of violence, while others are still in the protection period. Children unable to attend school are home schooled by educators.

Intesa Sanpaolo's IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division, headed by Mauro Micillo, supported the initiative with its own donation.

"On behalf of the entire Foundation, we would like to thank Intesa Sanpaolo's IMI Corporate & Investment banking division for its great support for the project, which enabled us to restructure and open the new services in a short time. The aim of the Foundation is to accompany these women alone or with their children towards a pathway out of violence, planning where possible a quick re-placement in the community, or in other structures in the area”, says FAM Chairman Emanuela Baio.

The “For Funding” platform allows individuals and legal entities to donate and lend money to Third Sector entities directly, without the use of intermediaries and without commission charged to either the donor or the beneficiary. Furthermore, through its own organisation and infrastructure, Intesa Sanpaolo guarantees security and transparency, with public reporting on both the progress of the collection and the subsequent use of the money raised.

Since it first began, back in 1902, the Asilo Mariuccia Foundation has aimed to promote the autonomy, growth and psychophysical well-being of mothers and their children who have suffered forms of violence and of unaccompanied minors often forced to flee their country of origin, who are facing a difficult period in their lives, in its host communities.

The initiative confirms Intesa Sanpaolo's role as an institution that wants to make a real social contribution to the community in terms of inclusion, enhancing the environment and culture, and promoting education and innovation. With the 2022-2025 Business Plan, the Group, led by CEO Carlo Messina, thanks to the establishment of the dedicated Intesa Sanpaolo per il Sociale (Intesa Sanpaolo for Social Affairs) structure, reinforces its objective of being a reference point in social sustainability, promoting the themes of inclusion and cohesion as part of its overall strategy.
