Milan, 28th May 2026 – Intesa Sanpaolo, through its IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division led by Mauro Micillo, has taken part, together with a pool of international banks, in an £825 million financing (equivalent to over €950 million) for Enviromena, a company active in the development of renewable energy projects.
The transaction represents one of the main solar sector deals in the United Kingdom in 2026 and addresses the need to develop low-emission energy solutions on a large scale. The rapid deployment of large-scale solar plants will be essential to achieving the UK government’s targets, strengthening energy security, and reducing long-term costs for consumers.
Nicola Doninelli, Head of Distribution Platforms & GTB of Intesa Sanpaolo’s IMI CIB Division commented: “This transaction confirms Intesa Sanpaolo’s role as a leading financial partner in major international markets for the development of sustainable energy infrastructure. In the United Kingdom, we continue to support large-scale initiatives in the renewables sector, leveraging specialist expertise, structuring capabilities and a strong international network, with the aim of making a tangible contribution to the energy transition, security of supply, and the deployment of low-emission solutions.”
The financing structure includes an initial tranche of £525 million (approximately €606 million), aimed at immediately supporting the development of photovoltaic plants with a total capacity of around 1 GW, alongside an additional facility of up to £300 million (over €346 million), which may be drawn progressively depending on project progress.
Enviromena - owned by the Arjun Infrastructure Partners fund - is an operator active in the renewable energy sector, developing, building and managing large-scale solar plants and energy storage systems across the UK and Europe.
Supporting the United Kingdom’s strategic infrastructure
The transaction is part of the broader commitment of Intesa Sanpaolo, led by CEO Carlo Messina, to support the energy transition and the development of sustainable infrastructure at an international level, contributing to the growth of renewable generation capacity and the achievement of decarbonisation and energy security targets.
In recent years, Intesa Sanpaolo has significantly strengthened its presence in the UK infrastructure market, taking part in numerous transactions across key strategic sectors.
In the construction sector, the IMI CIB Division has participated in financings totalling around €960 million in support of major UK groups, including Balfour Beatty, Kier Group and Morgan Sindall. In the ports sector, it has supported leading operators through dedicated transactions, including a bilateral financing of approximately €58 million for Associated British Ports and participation in a financing of around €240 million for Peel Ports Group.
In the energy transition sector, Intesa Sanpaolo has also acted as Mandated Lead Arranger, together with other international financial institutions, in a transaction of approximately €2.9 billion for the Liverpool Bay CO₂ Transportation & Storage project, an integral part of the HyNet programme aimed at developing hydrogen infrastructure and carbon capture systems.
More recently, the IMI CIB Division also completed two financings for National Grid and National Gas, totalling approximately €500 million, to support electricity and gas transmission and distribution. In addition, the Division provided a financing of approximately €88 million (£75 million) for Southern Gas Networks, a gas distribution operator owned by Scotia Gas Networks.
Supporting sustainable growth
Through an integrated, long-term approach, the Intesa Sanpaolo Group continues to support strategic projects in major international markets, contributing to the development of resilient, efficient and sustainable infrastructure. The commitment of the IMI CIB Division translates into concrete support for the energy transition, accompanying clients and partners in developing innovative, low-emission solutions in line with global sustainability objectives.
