World Environment Day 2026
June 5, 2026
June 5 marks World Environment Day, an initiative promoted by the United Nations since 1972, which this year focuses on climate change and the actions that institutions, businesses, and individuals can take to help combat this phenomenon.
The Intesa Sanpaolo Group encourages opportunities for dialogue that promote a culture of change with a focus on sustainability. For this reason, for the eighteenth consecutive year, it promotes the Day both among the Group’s people and through the Sustainability section of its corporate website.
In the 2026–2029 Business Plan, Intesa Sanpaolo reaffirmed its commitment to decarbonization and strengthened its support for its clients’ sustainable transition, intending to allocate 30% of new medium- to long-term loans to sustainable lending over the course of the Plan—namely financing for environmental, social, and other sustainability-related activities.
To foster constructive dialogue on the challenges of climate adaptation and the energy transition for businesses, the Bank organized an event on May 13 attended by institutions, the business community, and the financial sector. The recording is available at the following link.
In the first quarter of 2026, Intesa Sanpaolo:
- disbursed €4.2 billion to support clients’ sustainable transition. To support the energy transition, incentives were provided for specific deals and energy efficiency initiatives were launched to improve the development and refurbishment of non-residential buildings in Italy;
- purchased directly 96% of its electricity from renewable sources at Group level, in the countries where this is possible.
Banks in the Group’s International Banks Division also take part in the initiative. Below are some examples:
- ISP Albania is organizing an event open to colleagues and their children to discuss environmental topics through drawing workshops, an educational session, and interactive games;
- ISPRO Romania is sending a communication to all colleagues to highlight the importance of this Day and encourage small practical actions that can help protect the environment.
Through conscious consumption choices, each of us can take small steps to help safeguard ecosystems and preserve nature.
