Green and sustainable culture and initiatives

Intesa Sanpaolo contributes to the spread of the environmental and sustainability culture both internally and among its customers and the community, through training and engagement actions, participation in initiatives, associations and debates at national, European and international level, and the production of studies and research.

Through its office in Brussels, the Group brings its best practices to the attention of the European regulator, provides training to European officials on financial issues in support of sustainability, and underlines the specific characteristics of its context so that they are taken into consideration during the legislative process..

Training and engagement

Through online training platform Apprendo, the Bank has made available to staff a series of specific courses on environmental issues,including two mandatory courses for employees directly involved in the application of the Environmental and Energy Management Systems (around 6,000 people) and an optional course for the spread of good ecological practices for all Group people.

In addition, a series of news items was published on the company intranet to raise employee awareness on the need to reduce energy consumption at both work and home and to provide useful information in the event of catastrophic events also due to climate change.

Participation in the debate and advocacy

The Group actively participates in the international debate on environmental sustainability issues. In 2021, it was the first Italian bank to join the Climate Investment Platform (CIP), which brings together public and private sector financial institutions to support the implementation of renewable energy projects all over the world, facilitating the energy transition and also supporting developing countries in the definition of sustainable energy policies.

At the European level, Intesa Sanpaolo has interacted with legislators, major trade associations and other stakeholders to promote and represent represent the Group's various initiatives on environmental sustainability. Through its office in Brussels, it brings its best practices to the attention of regulators, provides training to European officials on financial issues in support of sustainability, and underlines the specific characteristics of its context so that they aretaken into consideration during the legislative process.

 

Res4Africa Foundation

Intesa Sanpaolo is a Founding Member of Res4Africa. The Foundation, which includes some of the main players in the energy sector and various international institutional bodies, aims to promote a market, regulatory and financial context that allows investments to be made in renewable energy on the African continent, and to observe new sector trends, such as green hydrogen.
