A new Master for safety at work

The new Master in Industrial Safety Engineering and Risk Analysis developed by the Turin Polytechnic with the collaboration of Intesa Sanpaolo is underway.

The new Master in Industrial Safety Engineering and Risk Analysis explores the world of risk prevention in production processes by focusing on the provisions and measures necessary to prevent them and to mitigate the consequences on operators while respecting the health of the community and the integrity of the plants.

What is safety engineering about? Why is risk analysis studied?

The impact on a social level and the increased awareness of the risks present in the productive and social activities carried out by man make safety an indispensable variable.
Safety engineering is a discipline that provides design and analysis tools that allow you to prevent risks and protect the safety of workers in all its aspects.
Risk analysis is the component used by safety engineering to study the probability of an accident occurring due to failures and / or unforeseen events of a different nature on a given plant.
The management of safety is more effective, the more the approach adopted is attentive to prevention, that is to say to the mitigation of the consequences and the adoption of measures and techniques for preventive diagnostics of accidental risks. The preventive approach is fully reflected in the regulatory field, in fact, the safety rules indicate and require a broad corollary of risk preventive actions.

Why this Master?

The Master in Industrial Safety Engineering and Risk Analysis is aimed at students and technicians who have obtained a master's degree.
Its objective is to study the problems and methodologies relating to the safety of production systems, enlarge one’s vision to the territorial and environmental effects connected with the operation of the plants.
At the end of the Master, the Technicians experienced in Safety Engineering and Risk Analysis will have developed a good regulatory as well as technical-scientific background and will be able to face and manage the typical problems of the safety and protection sector, in terms of analysis. The risks of processes or plants and the setting of structural and organizational interventions for the reduction and management of safety.

The didactic structure of the Master

The didactic planning of the Master is the result of a virtuous contamination of experiences: academic carrying an advanced knowledge; institutional inspired and in line with the regulatory evolution; company full of connections and references to real work dynamics and concrete production processes. The Master lasts one year and includes about 950 hours organized in lectures, exercises, seminars and internships and / or application project work. Part of the educational program will be held online.
The lessons, exercises and seminars are structured in modules that develop the different aspects of safety, relating to people, systems and the environment. Individual or group exercises and thematic in-depth analyzes are also provided using a dedicated online platform. The internship - final of the educational program - will take place at partner organizations and companies, where participants will be able to deal with real cases and operational situations and will be able to elaborate the project work.
Finally, a final thesis is planned at the end of the course.

Modules and topics covered
  1. General principles and Italian and European regulatory aspects
  2. Security analysis and operational tools
  3. Principles of safety organization
  4. Occupational health
  5. Security techniques
  6. Principles of safety management
  7. Thematic insights for the industrial profile and the commercial profile

The faculty

For the delivery of the contents of the Master, in addition to its teachers, the Polytechnic of Turin relies on the collaboration of qualified professionals and experts from partner institutions and companies. Among these, the colleagues of the Corporate Protection structure who will make their consolidated knowledge and expertise available in Intesa Sanpaolo.

The progress and evolution of work processes requires a continuous evolution of Safety Engineering.
Disseminating the culture of prevention and safety in production realities characterized by constant dynamism is a fundamental factor of social and economic importance.
Training professionals who will fill strategic roles within companies, guiding them through obligations, risks and opportunities, triggers virtuous processes for safety at work.
With our collaboration we want to accompany this cultural transformation and we want to give young people a further opportunity to do specialized training close to the concrete needs of companies in the sector.
