At the Gallerie d'Italia - Naples the exhibition “Andy Warhol. Triple Elvis”

With “Andy Warhol. Triple Elvis" curated by Luca Massimo Barbero, the Intesa Sanpaolo's Gallerie d'Italia - Naples devotes an exhibition to the original and extraordinary artistic research of Andy Warhol.

In particular, the exhibition allows us to retrace some significant stages of Warhol's artistic evolution in the 1960s and very early 1970s, starting with the work Triple Elvis from 1963, the year in which the artist first worked on the repetition of image.

It was during those years that the artist began to include characters in his works that he himself, anticipating the times, defined as “famous”.

Three fundamental graphic cycles are also on display here together for the first time ever:

  • the 10 Electric Chairs silkscreen paintings, where the image of an electric chair becomes a political icon but also a meditation on humanity and death
  • the 10 silkscreen paintings dedicated to the portrait of Mao Zedong and executed in 1972, the year of Nixon's famous trip to China
  • the other universally celebrated Marilyn series from 1967, which consecrates the great firmament of Hollywood myths that have today become emblematic of the American artist.

The decision to host the Warhol exhibition in the Intesa Sanpaolo museum in Naples stems from the artist's bond with the city and with prominent figures such as Lucio Amelio, who involved him in a series of exhibitions that were fundamental to the history of Naples.

The works on display come from the Luigi and Peppino Agrati Collection, now part of the historical and artistic heritage protected and enhanced by the Intesa Sanpaolo Group.

The Naples museum, along with those of Milan, Turin and Vicenza, is part of Intesa Sanpaolo's Gallerie d'Italia museum project.

Open to the public from 25 September 2024 to 16 February 2025.
