Diana Markosian exhibition at Gallerie d’Italia - Turin
9 April 2026
Intesa Sanpaolo presents “Diana Markosian. Replaced” at Gallerie d’Italia – Turin, as part of EXPOSED – Torino Photo Festival. Curated by Brandei Estes, the exhibition combines photography and film to explore the memory of relationships and the emotional disorientation that follows their end.
A new commissioned project on memory and relationships
The exhibition is an original commission by Intesa Sanpaolo and premieres at Gallerie d’Italia – Turin. The project is grounded in universal questions about the end of love and the transformation of shared experiences over time.
Through a visual narrative, the work examines how intimacy, places and memories can be redefined and reassigned, highlighting the persistence of emotional bonds even in absence.
A newly produced film is presented in the museum’s immersive room, extending the narrative dimension of the photographic work. The film alternates still images and split-screen compositions, intensifying the emotional impact of the story.
Diana Markosian (Moscow, 1989) is an American artist of Armenian origin working across photography, film and installation. Her practice explores themes of memory, displacement and the construction of personal and collective narratives, often rooted in her own biography. Markosian has presented her work at major international institutions, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the National Portrait Gallery in London, the International Center of Photography and Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam. In 2025, she received the Madame Figaro Prize at Les Rencontres d’Arles for her exhibition Father. Her works are held in significant public and private collections, and she is widely recognised for fostering a nuanced dialogue between documentary practice and scripted storytelling in contemporary art.
The exhibition is accompanied by an artist’s book co-published by Allemandi and Atelier EXB.
Gallerie d’Italia and Intesa Sanpaolo’s cultural strategy
The exhibition is part of the Gallerie d’Italia museum network, with venues in Turin, Milan, Naples and Vicenza. The initiative reflects the Bank’s ongoing commitment to contemporary art and to the production of original cultural content.
The exhibition “Diana Markosian. Replaced” is open to the public from 10 April to 6 September 2026. For more information, visit the Gallerie d’Italia website.
