19 November 2025
Intesa Sanpaolo presents the exhibition “Donne nella Napoli spagnola. Un altro Seicento” (“Women in Spanish Naples: Another Seventeenth Century”) at Gallerie d’Italia – Naples. The exhibition is curated by Antonio Ernesto Denunzio, Raffaella Morselli, Giuseppe Porzio and Eve Straussman-Pflanzer.
Dedicated to the role of women in the arts in seventeenth-century Naples, the exhibition showcases sixty-nine works, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, and manuscripts, highlighting a century of creativity and women’s artistic contributions.
The show features artists such as Diana Di Rosa, Giovanna Garzoni, Teresa Del Po, Caterina De Julianis, and Artemisia Gentileschi, placing them alongside leading masters of the period, including Ribera and Velázquez.
The project offers a broader interpretation of Neapolitan Baroque art, emphasizing the contributions of female artists and cultural figures active in music and theatre, and exploring women’s social and cultural achievements in seventeenth-century Naples.
The works on display come from major Italian and international museums, including the Museo del Prado in Madrid, the Spanish Royal Collections, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, and the Fundación Casa Ducal de Medinaceli in Seville.
Held under the institutional patronage of the Embassy of Spain in Italy and the City of Naples, the exhibition is presented in collaboration with the University of Naples L’Orientale.
Gallerie d’Italia – Naples, along with the museums in Milan, Turin and Vicenza, are part of Intesa Sanpaolo’s Gallerie d’Italia museum network.
The exhibition will be open to the public from 20 November 2025 to 22 March 2026. For more information, visit the Gallerie d’Italia website.
