DIVIDEND POLICY


Strong and increasing cash dividend distribution over the course of the 2014-2017 Business Plan: 1.2bn euro paid for 2014, 2.4bn euro paid for 2015, 3bn euro paid for 2016 and 3.4bn euro paid for 2017. In the 2018-2021 Business Plan, commitment to paying out 85% of net income as cash dividends for 2018, 80% for 2019, 75% for 2020 and 70% for 2021: 3.4bn euro of dividends paid for 2018.
 

DIVIDENDS FOR 2019

The Intesa Sanpaolo Shareholders’ Meeting of 27 April 2020 approved the proposal made by the Board of Directors at its meeting of 31 March 2020, in compliance with the recommendation of the European Central Bank dated 27 March 2020 on dividend policy until 1 October 2020 in the aftermath of the COVID-19 epidemic, to suspend dividend distribution to shareholders and to allocate net income for the financial year 2019 to reserves. This recommendation was prolonged till 1 January 2021 following the ECB communication of 28 July 2020 and subsequently replaced by the recommendation issued on 15 December 2020 and having deadline as at 30 September 2021.

DIVIDENDS FOR 2020

Intesa Sanpaolo’s Board of Directors at its meeting of 5 February 2021 adopted a proposal, to be submitted at the Shareholders’ Meeting of 28 April 2021, regarding the distribution of cash dividends of 694m euro, the maximum distributable amount according to the ECB recommendation of 15 December 2020 in force till 30 September 2021, and announced that, subject to the ECB indications, it intends  to convene a Shareholders’ Meeting to be held after 30 September 2021 to propose a cash distribution from reserves, for the 2020 results, that adds to the aforementioned dividends and leads to the payment of a total amount corresponding to a payout ratio of 75% of the 3,505m euro adjusted net income.
