Luca Campigotto’s Wandering Europe exhibition at Gallerie d’Italia-Turin
30 September 2026
Intesa Sanpaolo opens to the public "Luca Campigotto. Wandering Europe" at Gallerie d’Italia - Turin, an exhibition curated by Walter Guadagnini. Featuring more than 80 photographs by one of the leading interpreters of landscape photography, the exhibition offers a journey through contemporary Europe, capturing the complexity of a continent in constant transformation.
Commissioned by Intesa Sanpaolo, Campigotto’s journey was undertaken between 2025 and 2026, crossing the continent from its eastern borders, between Turkey, Armenia and Georgia, to the Atlantic coasts of Portugal and France, and from north to south, from the Svalbard Islands to Lampedusa and the slopes of Mount Etna. The itinerary unfolds through natural landscapes, archaeological sites, cities, industrial architecture, places of memory and territories shaped by the political and social transformations of our time.
The exhibition represents a new chapter in La Grande Fotografia Italiana (The Great Italian Photography) the series conceived and curated by Roberto Koch for Gallerie d’Italia - Turin to celebrate the great masters of contemporary Italian photography.
A reflection on European identity
Campigotto’s project reflects on European identity, its continuous evolution, and the ability of places to preserve both memory and change at the same time. Several of the countries featured in the project are still awaiting official accession to the European Union, offering a vision of the continent as an open, dynamic entity in a state of constant transformation.
Throughout the exhibition, the different identities, cultures and histories captured through Campigotto’s lens reveal unexpected connections between places separated by geography and time. The Parthenon, still wrapped in restoration scaffolding, enters into dialogue with a demolished building in Vukovar, while a border sign marking the frontier with Iran is juxtaposed with the historic façades of Bruges.
Likewise, untouched landscapes alternate with territories transformed by industry and human intervention, according to a concept of beauty that extends beyond harmony to include wonder, contrast, and even indignation at the consequences of mankind’s impact on the environment.
